Dental Bonding

Tooth bonding is the application of composite resin to the front surface of the tooth to visually change it. It is a simple, inexpensive cosmetic dental procedure that is usually completed in a single visit. If you have a cracked, chipped, decayed, or discolored tooth there are many solutions to choose from. Tooth bonding might be the perfect option for you to regain your self-confidence and share your healthy smile again.

Compassionate, efficient, and effective is how to describe the entire team at Karmazin Dental. The skills of each team member are unparalleled in the area. We live and breathe a collaborative approach in developing your personal oral health plan. You will not find a more technologically advanced practice that offers a more relaxing and comfortable setting. Your smile is our priority because we all strongly believe that your smile is a foundational gateway to your personality. It can drive your level of self-esteem and self-confidence. Call, text, or email us for an appointment for an evaluation on the benefits of a dental bonding procedure for you. Our number is 605-323-1320 and you can find the entire team at Karmazin Dental, 5701 S. Remington Pl, Sioux Fall, SD 57108, where we have plenty of free parking.

Dental bonding is a common and popular treatment option if you have gaps between your teeth, cracked teeth, chips in your teeth, decaying teeth or even if you have exposed roots from other dental conditions. The bonding compound is made from a composite resin material that is strong and can be shaped and molded to look and feel like your natural teeth. It is not an appliance like a dental bridge or dental implant, but it is a substance that can be sculpted to restore the look and function of your teeth with considerable ease.

The Benefits of Dental Bonding

There are several benefits with having dental bonding applied to your teeth. One benefit is that it will immediately improve the look of your teeth and smile. This will come as a relief if you have struggled with cracked or chipped teeth and cannot wait to get them repaired. Another benefit is that the bonding will also strengthen the tooth. When teeth are cracked, they are more susceptible to bacteria, infection, and further damage.

Restoring the shape of a chipped or cracked tooth means that some of the strength will be restored as well. Another benefit is that it is instant. Most dental bonding treatments can be completed in one visit with Karmazin Dental, meaning you can immediately enjoy your new smile. You can have your dental bonding touched up at future dental visits if the bonding begins to wear, or if it needs to be replaced.

The Dental Bonding Procedure

First, Karmazin Dental will use a shade guide to select a shade of resin that will match the natural color of the tooth. Before attaching the bonding, the surface of the tooth is roughened and lightly coated with a conditioning liquid so that the bonding material will stick to the enamel. Once the tooth is prepared, our creative team will apply the putty-like resin to the tooth and sculpt, shape and mold it until it is in the proper shape. Then the material is hardened with an ultraviolet light. After the resin is set, we will complete any finishing touches, such as additional shaping and polishing of the newly bonded tooth.

It usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour to complete the dental bonding procedure. If you are having multiple teeth done, it might take several visits to complete. Because most tooth bonding procedures do not require any anesthesia, you can return to your normal daily activities immediately.

The Life Expectancy of Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is not a permanent restoration, but it can last a long time. When cared for properly, and when you visit Karmazin Dental on a regular basis for exams and touch-ups, dental bonding can last for many years.

Taking care of your teeth will help extend the life of a bonded tooth. Suggestions include:

  • Brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing daily.
  • Avoiding hard food and candy.
  • Do not bite your nails.
  • Avoid coffee, tea, and tobacco for the first two days after the procedure to avoid stains.
  • Schedule your regular exams and dental cleanings every six months.

Call us if you accidentally chip or break the bonding material, or if you feel any sharp or rough edges after the procedure. If you have severely damaged teeth, the dental bonding might need to be replaced with another type of restoration later.

DENTAL PARTNERSHIP

COREY & MOLLY KARMAZIN

Karmazin Dental LOVES continuing education.  This means we invest a SIGNIFICANT amount of time and money to learning from the BEST in the country.  This ignites our passion and allows us to bring advanced knowledge back to our patients.  WE invest heavily in technology.  This technology aids us in proper diagnosis and helps us to make the best decisions on our patients’ behalf.

Dental Bonding versus Veneers

Dental bonding is designed for use in simple cosmetic improvements that do not impact the function of your teeth or gums in any way. Chips, cracks, gaps are the most common issues that dental bonding will correct. They differ from veneers in that veneers are made of layered glass ceramics and crafted outside in a dental lab. The veneer is designed to look and feel like your real teeth, and it adheres to your tooth with a cement.
