Candidate for a Dental Exam & Checkup?
Absolutely everyone is. All family members, from the children with their baby teeth to the grandparents with dentures, should see Karmazin Dental at the very minimum of every six months. Not only are children more susceptible to cavities, but their baby teeth need constant supervision to make sure they are growing in correctly without disease or decay. Even though children eventually lose their baby teeth, the first set is just as important as their permanent teeth.
As for the adults in the family, routine dental exams and checkups are crucial habits to start and maintain throughout your life. As you age from young adult to middle-age to senior citizen, your risk for oral infection increases. As your teeth age the enamel ages as well and weakens making it easier to get cavities. At home brushing and flossing twice daily will help keep your mouth healthy, and we can perform a more thorough cleaning and screen for more serious oral issues at your exams.
Keeping Your Dental Visits to A Minimum
No one can avoid the dentist all together, but you can absolutely keep your appointments to a minimum. Brushing at home twice a day, for two minutes each time, with a fluoride toothpaste and soft brush is a start. Flossing as a part of your daily routine helps remove any food particles left between the teeth and loosens any plaque building up on the teeth. You can choose to rinse with a mouth wash or antibacterial rinse to help your gums to stay healthy and disease free. Eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and avoiding high sugar and high acid foods will help keep out of our dental chair.

The Expectations at a Dental Exam and Checkup
During your visit with Karmazin Dental, we will examine your mouth with various dental instruments and specialized tools. These will help our team perform a thorough checkup of your teeth and mouth and to perform various examinations of your mouth.
- Tooth decay- We will check each tooth for weakening enamel, cracks or areas of plaque buildup which are signs of potential decay and eventual cavities or infection.
- X-rays- These images allow us to see what is going on below the surface of your teeth. X-rays will show our team how dense a tooth is, how the root looks below the gum line, and if there are tumors, growths, cysts, or places of decay. Once we have a series of x-rays to compare from prior visits to current visits, we will have a more complete set of data to monitor the progression of your dental health.
- Gum disease- We will look closely at your gums and the teeth near the gum line to check for periodontal disease.
- Existing restorations- We will check any fillings, crowns, or other tooth restorations for signs of serious wear and tear that can result in future infections.
- Oral cancer screening- Our gentle team will closely scrutinize your teeth, gums, tongue, cheeks, lips, and throat for signs of cancer or abnormal growths that might need further investigation.
- Education- Our knowledgeable team will review with you the best ways to keep your mouth healthy at home from how to brush and floss to which areas of your mouth need more attention. We can even review with you tips regarding your diet that includes avoiding sugar, adequate water intake and foods to eat to get the nutrients you need to keep a strong and healthy smile.
